Nottingham's Council House stands in the Old Market Square, one of the largest public squares in the United Kingdom at roughly 22,000 square metres. The city's history stretches from the legendary tales of Robin Hood to its industrial heritage in lace-making and bicycle manufacturing. You can explore the City of Caves, a network of over 500 sandstone caves carved beneath the streets, or visit Nottingham Castle, which reopened in 2021 as an interactive museum and art gallery perched on Castle Rock. The National Justice Museum brings centuries of crime and punishment to life, while Wollaton Hall — a striking Elizabethan mansion set in a deer park — doubles as a natural history museum. For green space, the Arboretum is the city's oldest public park, opened in 1852. Derby sits just 23 km to the south-west, and the market town of Southwell, home to its famous Minster, is only 22 km to the north-east. Nottingham's compact centre is easy to navigate, though surrounding roads open up quickly towards the rolling countryside of the East Midlands. Hiring a campervan or motorhome through Yescapa connects you directly with local owners who know the best routes out of the city, making it simple to pair an urban break with a countryside escape. With a campervan as your base, you can move freely between Nottingham's cultural highlights and the green landscapes just beyond its borders.
Nottingham comes alive in October during the Goose Fair, a funfair tradition dating back over 700 years, held at the Forest Recreation Ground. The countryside around Nottingham offers a fine selection of touring parks and caravan sites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and level hardstanding pitches. Whether you prefer woodland settings near Sherwood Forest or quieter rural spots in the Trent Valley, you will find well-maintained facilities within a short drive of Nottingham city centre.
Nottingham operates a clear zone in the city centre, so larger vehicles are best left at Park & Ride sites on the outskirts. These offer affordable day rates and tram or bus links into town. Overnight parking in a motorhome or campervan on public streets is generally not permitted without specific signage allowing it. Always check height barriers before entering multi-storey car parks, as most have a 2-metre limit.
