Why choose Montreal for your road trip

Montreal — a city worth exploring

Montréal's Habitat 67, a futuristic housing complex designed by Moshe Safdie for Expo 67, remains one of the most recognisable architectural experiments in North America. The city sits on an island in the Saint Lawrence River, giving it a distinctive character shaped by water, green spaces, and a bilingual culture unlike anywhere else in Canada. Wander through the cobblestone lanes of Old Montréal to visit the Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal, whose dazzling interior draws visitors year-round. Head up Mont Royal — the wooded hill that gave the city its name — for panoramic views and easy walking trails. Art lovers can spend hours at the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, while families enjoy the interactive exhibits at the Montréal Science Centre on the waterfront. The Botanical Garden, one of the largest in the world, covers 75 hectares and is especially impressive during the annual Lantern Festival. Québec City lies roughly 250 km to the north-east, and Ottawa is about 200 km to the west, making both ideal extensions to a longer trip. Montréal's grid-style boulevards and well-maintained highways suit larger vehicles, so exploring by motorhome or campervan is straightforward. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners across the greater Montréal area, which means flexible pick-up points and a personal introduction to the vehicle before you set off. It is an easy, community-driven way to begin your Canadian adventure on your own terms.

Best time to visit

Montréal comes alive from June to September, when long daylight hours and warm temperatures make campervan travel a pleasure. The Montréal International Jazz Festival fills the Quartier des Spectacles each summer, usually running from late June into early July. Autumn brings the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in October, alongside spectacular fall foliage along the routes heading north. Booking your motorhome early for July and August is wise, as this is peak season for road trips across Québec. Through Yescapa, you can often find competitive rates from local owners even during busier months, and shoulder-season hire in May or September offers quieter campsites and pleasant driving conditions around Montréal.

We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!

We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.

We had a great experience hiring this motorhome. Everything went smoothly and we had absolutely zero issues throughout our trip. Fernando kept us informed about everything from the beginning and was very friendly and helpful. He was also very flexible with both the pickup and drop-off times, which made everything much easier. The location is perfect, especially if you're arriving via Prague Airport. We travelled all the way to Hungary and back to Poland, staying at several off-grid locations along the way. We had an amazing time at Lake Balaton in Hungary and also loved our stay at the Pod Opaleńcem campsite in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland. We would definitely recommend this motorhome hire and would happily rent from Fernando again!
