Ljubljana's iconic Triple Bridge, designed by Jože Plečnik in 1932, connects the medieval old town to the modern city centre across the Ljubljanica River. As Slovenia's compact capital, it packs remarkable variety into a walkable footprint — from the hilltop Ljubljana Castle, accessible by funicular, to the open-air Central Market that runs along the riverbank every Friday. The National Gallery of Slovenia houses the country's most important fine art collection, while Tivoli Park stretches over 5 square kilometres of green space right beside the centre. Metelkova City, a former military barracks turned autonomous cultural quarter, offers galleries, live music, and street art unlike anything else in the region. The city sits at the crossroads of Alpine, Mediterranean, and Pannonian landscapes, making it an ideal base for exploring in every direction. Lake Bled is just 55 km to the north-west, while the Škocjan Caves — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — lie roughly 80 km to the south-west. Roads leading out of Ljubljana are well-maintained and suited to larger vehicles, with clear motorway connections in all directions. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in and around Ljubljana, giving you the flexibility to collect your vehicle nearby and set off at your own pace. It is a practical, personal way to begin a Slovenian road trip from the heart of the capital.
Ljubljana is wonderful to explore from late spring through to autumn. June and September offer comfortable driving weather and quieter campsites across the region. In summer, the Ljubljana Festival fills the city with open-air concerts, theatre, and dance performances from July through August. December brings the festive Ljubljana Christmas Market, transforming the old town with lights and local food stalls. Booking your campervan through Yescapa during shoulder months can mean better availability and more competitive pricing from local owners. Plan ahead for July and August — the most popular months for hiring a motorhome in Slovenia.
Ljubljana is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 55 km north-west from Ljubljana to reach Lake Bled and its fairy-tale island church. Stop at Radovljica along the way for its charming old quarter and chocolate museum. Campervan parking is available near the lake, though spaces fill quickly in peak season.
Drive 53 km south-west from Ljubljana to Postojna Cave, one of Europe's largest karst cave systems. Nearby Predjama Castle is built into a cliff face and well worth a visit. Motorhome parking is available at the cave complex with designated bays for larger vehicles.
This 130 km route south-west from Ljubljana takes you to Slovenia's Adriatic coast. Pause at Koper and Izola before reaching Piran's Venetian-style old town. Campervan travellers should note that Piran's centre is car-free, so use the designated parking area outside town.
Travel 140 km north from Ljubljana into the Julian Alps and Triglav National Park. The Vršič Pass and Soča Valley offer spectacular alpine scenery and riverside campsites. Roads are well-surfaced but winding, so take your time and enjoy the views from your campervan.
A straightforward 85 km drive east from Ljubljana brings you to Celje, home to the impressive Celje Castle — the largest medieval fortification in Slovenia. Stop at Šempeter Roman Necropolis en route. Motorhome-friendly parking is available close to the old town centre.
This 250 km route heads south-east from Ljubljana across the Croatian border to Zagreb, then on to Plitvice Lakes National Park. Explore Zagreb's Upper Town and Dolac Market before continuing south. Several well-equipped campsites near Plitvice welcome campervans and motorhomes.

Ljubljana and its surroundings offer a good selection of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Sites range from well-equipped urban facilities near the capital to lakeside and countryside locations within easy reach. Most provide electric hook-ups, modern shower and toilet blocks, Wi-Fi, and dedicated pitches for larger vehicles. Booking ahead is recommended during summer months to secure your preferred spot.
Ljubljana operates a park-and-ride system that works well for larger vehicles visiting the city centre. Overnight parking in a campervan or motorhome is not permitted on public streets within the city, so plan to use designated facilities or a nearby campsite. The P+R sites on the outskirts offer affordable rates and direct bus connections into the centre, making them a practical choice for day visits.
Everything was as described by Giulio. He was very accommodating and ready for any question/doubt we had. It was our first experience with a motorhome and Giulio made sure we felt comfortable and safe trying his motorhome. Thank you Giulio and see you next time!
Grazie mille Lorenzo! Alla prossima :)
Excellent van! Comfortable. spacious and rives like a dream. Also the owner, Albert, is a pleasure to deal with. Incredible communicator, very helpful and honest!
We travelled through Portugal for two weeks with our family of five. The camper has everything you need, and the air conditioning was a huge plus during the summer. Marcelino always responded quickly and was very helpful whenever we had a question. We had a fantastic trip and highly recommend this camper!
Great comms and super helpful. Van had everything we needed.
Kevin was so helpful helping John and I embark on our first campervan journey with our dogs travelling the length of France in his lovely converted Boxer van we have all come to love as ''Olive''. The first trip of many our experience was overwhelmingly good. So many amazing places to stop at and amazing views from Blue Lakes , Vast Gorges and amazing views from High Mountain Passes, Olive got us there ! Then when we were all parked up she offered us such a lovely comfy place to spend the night. With mosquito nets and an ambient cooling system in the cab, we took some fans to cope with the ' above 40 degree at times, temperatures but the dogs and us were absolutely fine.. Olive's solar powered appliances really do work all day and through the night. Kevin was an amazing host - even though we 'lost ' his fuel tank cap! Don't ask us how! Id thoroughly recommend Olive to anyone . She is a lovely van and Kevin a great host.
