Why choose Glasgow for your road trip

Glasgow — a city worth exploring

Glasgow's Charles Rennie Mackintosh trail links over 30 buildings designed by the celebrated architect, making it the largest collection of Art Nouveau-influenced structures in the United Kingdom. Scotland's largest city sits on the River Clyde and rewards you with world-class museums that charge no admission — the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum alone houses more than 8,000 objects across 22 themed galleries. Stroll through the Necropolis, a Victorian cemetery perched on a hill behind Glasgow Cathedral, for panoramic views across the rooftops. The Riverside Museum, designed by Zaha Hadid, traces the city's transport heritage along the waterfront, while the Botanic Gardens in the West End offer a peaceful break beneath the curved glass of the Kibble Palace. Edinburgh lies just 75 km to the east for a day trip, and Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park begins only 40 km to the north-west, giving you easy access to open water and mountain scenery. Glasgow's grid-pattern streets and well-signed ring road make driving a motorhome straightforward compared with many historic Scottish cities. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan directly from local owners who know the best routes out of the city and can share tips on overnight spots along the west coast. Choosing a peer-to-peer campervan means competitive prices and a personal touch that sets your trip apart from the start.

Best time to visit

Glasgow comes alive in June during the West End Festival, one of Scotland's largest cultural celebrations, with street parades and open-air performances ideal for exploring by campervan. August brings the Glasgow International Piping Festival, filling George Square with music. Summer months offer the longest daylight hours, perfect for driving onward to the Highlands. Spring and autumn are quieter, and with Yescapa's peer-to-peer model you can often find better hire prices outside peak season. Book ahead for July and August to secure the best choice of vehicles in Glasgow.

What our users say about our campervans and motorhomes in Glasgow

This was our first experience hiring a van and it was very good. Patrick was super helpful and friendly. We experienced some problems with the battery but Patrick was very responsive and helpful trying to solve this. The van has everything you need, although a cradle for your phone would be useful if using for directions as there is no satnav. The bed was surprisingly spacious and very comfy- we slept very well considering the 40 degree heat wave! We would recommend this van to you. Thank you Patrick!

Lovely campervan with everything you need, friendly owner and easy handover. The only down side was the security deposit process was difficult, as money was being transferred from a UK account to a French one. This was not instant on either transaction and unfortunately we ended up £58 down on our return due to exchange rates. I think using a deposit holding company would be a better option for both parties.

Stefano was great I added the airport shuttle option and he was on time and friendly - the van was great i took it up to the Dolomites and it was small enough for all the roads and carparks and the perfect compact van with everything you'd need. It was warm enough and comfortable and useful. Great experience!

Nil and his partner were second time renters now in July 2026, back then Nov 2024. It was great having them again and I only have positive things to say about them :)! They left the van in impeccable condition, each time. They are flexible with timing or if there is any issue. They communicate well. I'm super happy to rent to them again and if any other renter reads this, don't hesitate at all!
