Why choose Edmonton Canada for your road trip

Edmonton Canada — a city worth exploring

Edmonton sits at the confluence of the North Saskatchewan River, which carves a 48-kilometre ribbon of parkland through the city — the longest stretch of connected urban parkland in North America. This river valley is yours to explore on foot, by bike, or as a launching point for a wider road trip across Alberta. History buffs can spend a full day at Fort Edmonton Park, Canada's largest living history museum, while the Royal Alberta Museum showcases natural and cultural heritage across four floors of interactive galleries. For family-friendly fun, West Edmonton Mall houses over 800 shops alongside an indoor waterpark, ice rink, and amusement park — all under one roof. Art lovers will appreciate the Art Gallery of Alberta, whose striking zinc-clad architecture stands out along Sir Winston Churchill Square. Beyond the city, Elk Island National Park lies just 35 km to the east, offering bison-viewing and quiet lakeside trails, while the town of Red Deer is roughly 156 km to the south, opening up routes deeper into central Alberta. Edmonton's wide, well-maintained roads and generous parking make it a comfortable base for larger vehicles. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from a local owner, giving you insider tips on the best routes and a more personal start to your Alberta adventure.

Best time to visit

Edmonton comes alive in summer, when long daylight hours make June to August ideal for campervan touring. The Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival in August is the largest fringe festival in North America, filling Old Strathcona with outdoor performances and street food. In July, K-Days brings carnival rides, live music, and fireworks to the city. Campsites around Edmonton are busiest from late June through August, so booking your motorhome early on Yescapa gives you the widest choice of vehicles and competitive peer-to-peer pricing. Autumn brings golden river valley colours and quieter roads — a wonderful time for a relaxed hire.
