The Dolomites hold UNESCO World Heritage status for their extraordinary pale limestone peaks, with 18 summits rising above 3,000 metres across northeastern Italy. The Tre Cime di Lavaredo, three iconic towers near Auronzo di Cadore, draw visitors from around the world, while the Marmolada glacier at 3,343 metres remains the highest point in the range. From Bolzano to Cortina d'Ampezzo, the distance is roughly 110 km through winding mountain passes, and from Trento to Brunico it is approximately 130 km heading north through lush valleys. Along the way, you can explore the Alpe di Siusi, Europe's largest high-altitude alpine meadow, or pause at Lago di Braies, a turquoise lake framed by sheer rock faces. The Great Dolomites Road (Grande Strada delle Dolomiti) links Bolzano to Cortina via the Pordoi and Falzarego passes, offering sweeping views at every turn. Narrow mountain roads and hairpin bends are part of the experience, so a well-sized campervan is ideal for navigating the tighter sections, while wider valley routes suit a motorhome comfortably. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners based across the region, giving you a broad choice of vehicles and the flexibility to start your trip from the town that suits you best. Whether you are heading for high passes or lakeside meadows, the Dolomites reward every kilometre.
June to September is the prime window for exploring the Dolomites by campervan, when mountain passes such as the Stelvio and Passo Giau are fully open and campsites across the valleys welcome motorhomes. The Südtirol Jazz Festival in late June and early July brings live music to mountain stages around Bolzano and Bressanone. Booking through Yescapa during shoulder months like June or September often means more competitive peer-to-peer prices and quieter roads. Winter closures affect several high passes from November, so plan your route accordingly and confirm pass openings before you set off.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.

The Dolomites offer a wide selection of campsites spread across valleys and lakeshores, many with dedicated pitches for both campervans and motorhomes. Expect facilities such as electrical hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and waste disposal points. Several sites sit at higher altitudes with direct access to hiking trails, while others nestle beside lakes in the Dolomites' lower valleys, giving you flexibility to match your itinerary to the landscape.
Italy's motorway network uses a toll system, and you pay at barriers using cash, card, or a Telepass device. The A22 Brennero motorway is the main north–south artery serving the Dolomites, connecting Trento to Brennero. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are 100 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on secondary roads. Many Dolomite routes are narrow mountain passes with height and weight restrictions, so check signage before tackling passes like the Passo Sella or Passo Gardena. Rest areas with services are well spaced along the A22 but scarcer on smaller mountain roads.
Kevin was so helpful helping John and I embark on our first campervan journey with our dogs travelling the length of France in his lovely converted Boxer van we have all come to love as ''Olive''. The first trip of many our experience was overwhelmingly good. So many amazing places to stop at and amazing views from Blue Lakes , Vast Gorges and amazing views from High Mountain Passes, Olive got us there ! Then when we were all parked up she offered us such a lovely comfy place to spend the night. With mosquito nets and an ambient cooling system in the cab, we took some fans to cope with the ' above 40 degree at times, temperatures but the dogs and us were absolutely fine.. Olive's solar powered appliances really do work all day and through the night. Kevin was an amazing host - even though we 'lost ' his fuel tank cap! Don't ask us how! Id thoroughly recommend Olive to anyone . She is a lovely van and Kevin a great host.
Amazing renters ) Happy vacation in Lanzerote and hopefully see you soon again )
Miguel was the perfect person to rent a camper van from. The van had everything you could wish for. He was kind, extremely helpful and the test drive I requested really assisted me. . All the paperwork and communication was highly efficient and very fair. No issues at all. As a single female in my 60s I could not recommend a better person.
My partner and I have been on van trips before, but only borrowing friend's vans in the UK. This was our first time renting a van abroad, first time using Yescapa and first time exploring the Picos de Europa. Overall it was a super smooth experience and enabled us to have one of the best holidays ever - so we would fully recommend! Firstly, the booking experience. We were visiting during the eclipse and so we were wary that everything was getting booked up. We stumbled upon Yescapa and this van, then the booking experience was pretty simple so it kind of felt too good to be true. Picking up the van was a doddle, with all the instructions sent clearly over WhatsApp. This meant we felt comfortable hitting the ground running. Secondly, the van was absolutely perfect for our holiday. The shower out the back was perfect for cooling down and cleaning off after runs. The camp stove worked great for making porridge in the morning, and we were grateful for the included chairs - especially when it came to watching the eclipse. We found that the fridge tended to heat the cabin when it was running which meant it worked quite well for helping control the temperature i.e. we'd leave the fridge running if there was a cold night due. Finally, thank you to Safira the host for letting us use the van for our wonderful trip. She was very quick to respond to any questions, and super lovely in helping us out during pick-up and drop-off.
We had a lovely few days in France in the motorhome. We picked up about 30 minutes from Calais which was very convenient for the ferry. The van had everything we needed and we had a great time visiting the Normandy beaches and D day sites.
We had the best experience with this campervan and were so sad when it was time to hand it back! We had it for 3 nights during peak summer at a really reasonable price, and it was absolutely perfect for our little adventure. The host was fantastic and always replied incredibly quickly whenever we had a question. The van itself had everything we could possibly need and more. You can really tell that the owner has thought about all the little details — from salt and pepper, coffee and tea, to plenty of kitchenware and even a coffee machine! The bed was super comfortable and really easy to assemble, and the fan worked brilliantly, which was definitely appreciated during the summer heat. We honestly loved every minute of van life and were genuinely sad to leave. Thank you for helping make our trip so special — we would definitely recommend this campervan to anyone looking for an amazing adventure!
