Darwin's Mindil Beach Sunset Market has drawn crowds every Thursday and Sunday evening during the dry season since 1987, making it one of Australia's longest-running outdoor markets. The city sits on the Timor Sea coastline in the Northern Territory, offering a unique blend of Indigenous culture, wartime history and tropical landscapes. You can explore the Defence of Darwin Experience at East Point, wander through the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens — home to over 1,500 tropical plant species — or discover the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, which houses Cyclone Tracy's story and an impressive collection of Aboriginal art. The Crocosaurus Cove aquarium in the city centre lets you get remarkably close to saltwater crocodiles. Beyond the city, Litchfield National Park lies just 120 km south, while Kakadu National Park is roughly 170 km to the east, both reachable on well-maintained sealed roads suited to larger vehicles. Darwin's flat, wide streets and generous parking bays make it easy to navigate by motorhome, and the surrounding region rewards those who take their time. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner who knows the Top End inside out — they can share tips on the best swimming holes, scenic pull-overs and campsite picks that guidebooks often miss. It is a practical, personal way to begin your Northern Territory adventure.
The dry season from May to October is the most popular time to visit Darwin, with warm days, clear skies and comfortable evenings ideal for campervan touring. The Darwin Festival in August fills the city with outdoor performances, music and art across multiple venues. June and July bring the Royal Darwin Show and lively community events. Book your Yescapa hire early for the peak dry-season months, when demand from fellow travellers is highest. The wet season from November to April offers quieter roads, dramatic thunderstorms and lush green scenery — a rewarding time if you enjoy a more relaxed pace.
Darwin is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 120 km south from Darwin along the Stuart and Litchfield Park roads to reach cascading waterfalls and monsoon forests. Cool off at Florence Falls and Wangi Falls, both with campervan-friendly car parks. Buley Rockhole offers natural plunge pools, and magnetic termite mounds line the roadside. Several campgrounds inside the park have basic facilities.

Stop at the Territory Wildlife Park along the way to see native animals in natural habitats. The route follows the Stuart Highway and is easy for larger vehicles. Picnic areas with shaded shelters make a relaxed day trip.
Travel 170 km east from Darwin into the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. Visit the ancient rock art at Ubirr and Nourlangie, then take a cruise on Yellow Water Billabong to spot crocodiles and birdlife. Motorhome-friendly campgrounds at Jabiru and Cooinda offer powered sites. The Arnhem Highway is sealed and well maintained throughout.
Drive 200 km south-east from Darwin to Mary River National Park, one of the Top End's best wildlife corridors. Campervan sites at Mary River Wilderness Retreat provide powered hook-ups and hot showers.
Follow the Stuart Highway 310 km south from Darwin to Katherine, gateway to Nitmiluk National Park. Paddle through the towering sandstone walls of Katherine Gorge or take a scenic cruise. Edith Falls, further north in the park, has a natural swimming pool. Katherine has well-equipped caravan parks with full facilities for campervans and motorhomes.
Head 400 km north-east from Darwin towards Nhulunbuy in Arnhem Land, a remote region rich in Indigenous culture. A permit is required before entering Aboriginal land — arrange this in advance. Most sites around Darwin provide electric hook-ups, hot showers, toilets and barbecue areas, so you can recharge comfortably between adventures.
Darwin's city centre offers several large car parks that can accommodate campervans and motorhomes. Street parking in the CBD is generally metered during business hours, so check signage for time limits and vehicle-length restrictions. Overnight parking in public car parks is not permitted unless specifically signed. For longer stays, use a campsite or designated rest area outside the centre. Always confirm height clearances before entering multi-storey facilities.
The experience was seemles from start to finish. Handover was very straightforward with all the major information required exchanged. Fabian the owner remained available during the trip for any issues that may arise. The vehicle was as advertised and in very good condition. Very nice camping caravan, equipped with everything that you could need. The return process was straightforward when returning vehicle. Also my car was kept securley stored at the location for arrival and drop off. Overall very good experience and i would highly recommend and use again in the future.
We really enjoyed our travels around Brittany in Clarisse's camper van. It was comfortable and easy to drive and had everything we needed for our holiday. Clarisse explained everything clearly to us before we set off.
A really positive experience from start to finish.

The hire experience was excellent throughout. The owners were very friendly, accommodating and easy to deal with. We had such a good trip. The van is really well looked after and a pleasure to drive. The owners helped with anything we were unsure of and even gave us tips on where to eat and park up. We would definitely hire through these owners again.
