Bologna's iconic Two Towers — the Asinelli and Garisenda — have leaned over the city's terracotta rooftops since the 12th century, making this one of Italy's most recognisable skylines. As the capital of Emilia-Romagna, Bologna is a city where food, history and culture come together at every turn. Stroll beneath nearly 40 km of covered porticoes, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore landmarks such as the Basilica di San Petronio on Piazza Maggiore, the Archiginnasio — home to Europe's oldest anatomical theatre — and the National Art Gallery of Bologna (Pinacoteca Nazionale). The university quarter buzzes with energy, a reminder that the University of Bologna, founded in 1088, is the oldest in the Western world. Beyond the city walls, the Emilia-Romagna countryside opens up in every direction. Modena sits just 40 km to the northwest, while the Adriatic coast at Rimini is roughly 120 km to the southeast, giving you easy access to both rolling hills and sandy beaches. Bologna's compact historic centre is best explored on foot, but a campervan or motorhome is ideal for venturing into the surrounding Apennine foothills and flatlands of the Po Valley. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners who know the region's best routes, seasonal tips and parking spots — a genuine peer-to-peer experience that makes your trip more personal from the moment you collect the keys.
Bologna is wonderful to visit from April through to October. Spring brings comfortable driving weather and fewer crowds, ideal for exploring by campervan. In June, the Festa di San Petronio fills the city with music and local traditions, while autumn sees the Bologna Food Festival celebrate the region's legendary cuisine. Summer is the busiest season, so booking your motorhome early on Yescapa gives you access to competitive peer-to-peer prices and a wider choice of vehicles. The mild autumn months are perfect for touring the Apennine foothills around Bologna without the peak-season rush.

Bologna offers a mix of urban and countryside camping options for both campervans and motorhomes. Within the city you will find sites with full hook-ups, while the surrounding Apennine foothills and Adriatic coast provide greener, more spacious pitches. Most sites include electric hook-ups, fresh water, waste disposal, showers and toilets. Booking ahead in summer is a good idea, especially for pitches closer to Bologna itself.
Bologna's historic centre is a limited traffic zone (ZTL), so driving a larger vehicle into the old town is restricted. You can park outside the ZTL and reach the centre by bus or on foot. Overnight parking in designated areas is generally permitted, but always check local signage for time limits and height restrictions. Several large car parks on the city's ring road accommodate motorhomes and campervans comfortably.
great van a few interior problems but apart from that all good
check in took 1.40 hr! legible dirty outside with tape repairs to window and mirror paid for gas but when we got there found canister was empty and we had to replace ourselves
Everything was amazing
Great experience renting the Jimny. The owners were brilliant to deal with from start to finish, and the Jeep was in excellent condition. It was perfect for exploring the Algarve. Would definitely recommend and would happily rent from them again!
Clean, well-maintained vehicle that gave us so many great memories! We traveled to many places and drove around 900 km ourselves, and it handled everything flawlessly. Thanks to its size, parking was super easy, we could fit anywhere, and we were able to sleep in spots where a different kind of campervan wouldn't have worked. It is fully equipped with everything provided, even extra games for beach days! The bed and bedding were clean, and it has a really comfortable mattress. The owners were super nice and sweet. Everything went smoothly during both pickup and drop-off, and they were always there to help whenever we needed it, even when we got a bit lost! 😅 Plus point that they were super cool and easy to talk to. P.S. The AC works like a charm!
Sergey's van is great. Really spacious, easy to drive. We had a great trip. Sergey was really nice helpful and was on hand to help with any questions during the trip. He even gave us a lift to the train station in Ljubljana! Would 100% recommend.
