Bern's old town sits on a peninsula formed by a dramatic loop of the River Aare and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. The city's iconic Zytglogge clock tower has been marking the hours since 1530, drawing visitors to its astronomical dial and mechanical figures. Stroll along the 6 km of covered arcades — the longest weather-sheltered shopping promenade in Europe — before visiting the Bern Historical Museum, the Zentrum Paul Klee with its wave-shaped architecture by Renzo Piano, or the BärenPark, where brown bears roam a riverside enclosure just below the Nydeggbrücke. The Rose Garden above the bear park offers panoramic views across the medieval rooftops. Thun is just 30 km south, sitting at the foot of Lake Thun, while Fribourg lies 34 km to the west, making both ideal day-trip additions. The roads around Bern are well maintained and easy to navigate in a larger vehicle, though the old town itself is largely pedestrianised, so parking on the outskirts is the way to go. With Yescapa, you hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in the Bern area, which means flexible pick-up points across the city and personal tips from people who know the region inside out. It is a practical, community-driven way to set off on a Swiss road trip from the capital.
Bern is a rewarding destination throughout the year. Summer brings the Gurtenfestival in July, a four-day open-air music event on the Gurten hill just south of the city, while the Zibelemärit onion market in late November fills the old town with stalls and festivities. From May to September, campsites around Bern are in full swing, so booking your campervan early through Yescapa gives you the best choice of vehicles and competitive peer-to-peer prices. Spring and autumn are quieter, with comfortable driving conditions and easier parking for motorhomes near the centre.

Drive 60 km west from Bern to the medieval walled town of Murten on Lake Morat. Walk the intact ramparts for lake views and visit the Murten Museum inside the old mill. This is a relaxed short trip with easy motorhome parking near the harbour and lakeside campsites close by.
Travel 115 km north-east from Bern to Lucerne, crossing the Emmental valley. Stop at the Emmentaler Schaukäserei in Affoltern to watch cheese being made, then continue to Lucerne for the Chapel Bridge and the Swiss Transport Museum. Several well-equipped campsites sit along the lake.
Cover 130 km south-west from Bern to Montreux on Lake Geneva. Pause in Gruyères to tour the castle and sample local cheese, then descend to Montreux for the Château de Chillon. Campervan-friendly aires are dotted along the lakeside, and the roads through the Simmental are wide and scenic.

The area around Bern offers a good range of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Within the city itself you will find riverside sites with electrical hook-ups, fresh-water points and modern shower blocks. Further out towards the Bernese Oberland, lakeside and mountain-edge sites provide generous pitches with waste-disposal facilities. Most sites around Bern are open from April to October, with a handful operating year-round.
Bern's old town is largely car-free, so you will need to park on the outskirts. Several multi-storey car parks accept larger vehicles up to a stated height, but always check clearance before entering. Overnight parking in a motorhome or campervan on public streets is generally not permitted without explicit signage allowing it. Designated Park+Ride facilities on the city fringe offer affordable day rates and good tram connections into the centre.
Frederic was excellent. Easy to contact and helpful at all times. The whole experience was a joy.
Fantastic, we were welcomed and everything was fantastic.
We hired this camper Asier for our family holiday through Spain and France, what a great van it is with everything you need. Asier is very friendly and helpful even though there was a language barrier. We would definitely use again if we needed to.
Mario was very helpful and supported us with this new experience. The vehicle was basically brand new and while there were some minor problems with cupboard doors, it was a very well equipped and comfortable van for 2 adults and two children of 10 and 13 years old. Highly recommended!
We had a fantastic experience renting Gilbert’s campervan and would highly recommend him to anyone looking to book through Yescapa. Everything was easy and straightforward from the initial booking right through to collecting the campervan. Gilbert was incredibly friendly and welcoming and took plenty of time to show us around the campervan and explain how everything worked before we set off. My spoken French is very limited, but Gilbert was extremely patient and accommodating, and with the help of translation apps we were able to make both the collection and handover really easy and smooth. The campervan was great and had everything we needed for our family adventure around Brittany. This was our first ever campervan holiday, and we absolutely loved the experience. A big thank you to Gilbert and his wife for being so welcoming and helpful. We would definitely recommend renting from Gilbert and would happily book his campervan again in the future!
Everyting more than perfect, happy to welcome you again!
