Bergen's Bryggen wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, lines the harbour with colourful wooden buildings dating back to the Hanseatic era. Norway's second-largest city sits between seven mountains and the sea, making it a natural gateway to the fjords. You can ride the Fløibanen funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen for sweeping views across the city and surrounding islands, or explore the collections at KODE Art Museums, one of the largest art and design museums in Scandinavia. The lively Bergen Fish Market at Torget has been trading since the 1200s, offering fresh seafood right on the waterfront. Hardangerfjord, Norway's second-longest fjord, begins roughly 60 km south-east of Bergen, while the charming town of Voss sits about 100 km to the east along the E16, popular for outdoor adventures. The roads around Bergen wind through tunnels and along fjord edges, so a compact campervan suits the terrain well. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners in and around Bergen, which means you can pick up a motorhome close to where your trip begins. Peer-to-peer hiring also gives you access to a wider choice of vehicles, from small campervans to larger family setups, all at prices set by real people rather than large fleets.
Bergen enjoys its warmest and longest days from June to August, ideal for fjord-side drives and open-air exploring. The Bergen International Festival, held each May, fills the city with music, theatre and dance, while the Bergen Food Festival in September celebrates local produce. Summer is the busiest period, so booking your campervan on Yescapa early helps you secure the best choice from local owners at fair peer-to-peer prices. Shoulder months like May and September offer quieter roads and comfortable conditions for motorhome travel around the fjords.
Bergen is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 100 km east from Bergen along the E16 through dramatic valleys and past Lake Evangervatnet. Stop at Tvindefossen waterfall just outside Voss, then explore the Voss Gondol for panoramic mountain views. Campervan parking is available near the town centre, and the route is well-suited to a relaxed weekend drive.
This 65 km route south-east from Bergen includes a scenic ferry crossing over the Hardangerfjord. Visit Baroniet Rosendal, Scandinavia's smallest barony, and walk through its historic rose garden. The roads are narrow in places, so a compact campervan works best. Overnight spots can be found near the fjord shore.
Travel 150 km north-east from Bergen to reach Flåm, home to one of the world's steepest railway lines. Drive through Gudvangen at the end of the Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO-listed fjord, before arriving in Flåm. Motorhome parking is available at Flåm Camping, and the mountain roads reward you with incredible scenery at every turn.
Cover 190 km south-west from Bergen along the coastal E39, crossing bridges and passing through tunnels above the North Sea. Stop at Akvariet i Bergen on your way out, then visit the Nordvegen History Centre near Haugesund. Campsites along the coast offer hook-ups and sea views, perfect for a multi-day campervan trip.
Drive 210 km south from Bergen to Stavanger, combining fjord ferries and coastal highways. Detour to Preikestolen base camp for the famous Pulpit Rock hike, and explore Stavanger's Old Town with its white wooden houses. Allow five to eight days to enjoy the route fully, with plenty of motorhome-friendly stops along the way.
This 460 km journey north from Bergen follows the coast through fjord country to the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund. Stop at Briksdalsbreen glacier arm in Jostedalsbreen National Park and the Geirangerfjord, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Plan five to eight days and book campervan pitches ahead during summer for the best experience.

Bergen and its surrounding fjord landscape offer a good selection of campsites for both campervans and motorhomes. Many sites provide electric hook-ups, modern shower and toilet blocks, and Wi-Fi, with some positioned right on the waterfront. Whether you prefer staying close to the city centre or further out among the mountains, you will find pitches with the space and facilities you need for a comfortable stay.
Parking a larger vehicle in Bergen city centre requires some planning, as many car parks have height restrictions. Look for facilities that accept vehicles over 2.1 m and check signage for maximum dimensions before entering. Overnight parking in public spaces is generally not permitted within the city, so use designated campsites or approved motorhome areas instead. Several park-and-ride options on the outskirts let you leave your vehicle and take the light rail into town.
Beyond happy with the whole experience. The motorhome was very comfy and had everything we needed for our little girls camping trip. More importantly the owners were extremely friendly and beyond helpful at all times with the vehicle, the routes, the airport pickups and dropp offs and many many more things! All and all very happy with this experience!
The experience was seemles from start to finish. Handover was very straightforward with all the major information required exchanged. Fabian the owner remained available during the trip for any issues that may arise. The vehicle was as advertised and in very good condition. Very nice camping caravan, equipped with everything that you could need. The return process was straightforward when returning vehicle. Also my car was kept securley stored at the location for arrival and drop off. Overall very good experience and i would highly recommend and use again in the future.
We really enjoyed our travels around Brittany in Clarisse's camper van. It was comfortable and easy to drive and had everything we needed for our holiday. Clarisse explained everything clearly to us before we set off.
A really positive experience from start to finish.
