The Atlantic coast offers a wide spread of campsites, from beachfront pitches backed by dunes to shaded woodland sites among the Landes pines. Most are well equipped for both campervans and motorhomes, with electrical hook-ups, dedicated service areas for waste and fresh water, and modern shower blocks. Whether you prefer a lively family park near the surf or a quieter spot beside the Gironde estuary, you will find options right along the coast.
Most of the Atlantic coast is served by the A10 and A63 motorways, both of which are toll roads. You pay at péage barriers using cash, card, or a télépéage transponder. Motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are classed as Category 2 vehicles and pay higher tolls. Speed limits for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are 110 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on single carriageways. Rest areas with motorhome service points appear roughly every 30 km on major routes. The N10 and D-roads running closer to the coast are toll-free and well suited to campervans, though they pass through towns and are slower.
