Europe stretches across 10.18 million square kilometres and connects 44 countries by a motorway network exceeding 77,000 km, making it one of the most rewarding continents to explore on four wheels. From the Cliffs of Moher on Ireland's Atlantic coast to the ancient ruins of the Acropolis in Athens — roughly 3,100 km apart — the diversity of landscapes, cultures and cuisines is extraordinary. You can wake up beside Norway's Geirangerfjord, drive through Germany's Black Forest, and end the week parked near the turquoise waters of Croatia's Plitvice Lakes National Park. The 241 km Grande Route des Alpes in France climbs through sixteen mountain passes, while Spain's Camino de Santiago trail towns offer a completely different rhythm. Campervans handle narrow village lanes with ease, and a motorhome gives you the space to settle in for longer stays. Whether you are chasing the Northern Lights in Finnish Lapland or sampling port wine in Porto's Ribeira district, the road always has something new around the next bend. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners spread right across the continent, so you can pick up a campervan close to where your trip begins. That peer-to-peer approach means a wider choice of vehicles, honest owner tips on the best routes, and prices that suit a range of budgets.
Europe rewards campervan travel year-round, though May to September is the most popular window, when campsites across the continent operate at full capacity. Book ahead for July if you want to catch Pamplona's San Fermín festival in Spain, or aim for late September to enjoy Oktoberfest in Munich. Shoulder months like April and October bring quieter roads and lower hire rates — a real advantage when you book through Yescapa, where peer-to-peer pricing often undercuts traditional rental firms. Winter opens up alpine adventures in Austria and Switzerland, with many motorhome-friendly aires staying open for ski season visitors.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Spanning 450 km from Lake Geneva across the French Alps to the Côte d'Azur, this route passes through Chamonix and the Route Napoléon. Motorhome service areas dot the valleys, and summer brings clear mountain passes perfect for a 5–8 day adventure.
This 900 km journey links Barcelona, the French Riviera and the Italian Ligurian coast over 10–15 days. Pass through Montpellier, Nice and Genoa, with beachside campsites and motorhome aires offering full facilities along the Mediterranean shore.
This 400 km route traces Portugal's western edge from Porto south to the Algarve. Stop at the surf town of Nazaré and the medieval walls of Óbidos. Coastal campsites welcome campervans and motorhomes, with plenty of serviced pitches along the way.
Cover 700 km through Norway's fjord country, from Bergen to Geiranger and on to Ålesund. Ferry crossings link dramatic cliff-side roads ideal for campervans. Allow 7–11 days to enjoy hikes, waterfalls and well-equipped municipal campsites en route.
A compact 250 km loop from Naples through Sorrento and along the Amalfi Coast to Salerno. Smaller campervans handle the narrow cliff roads best. Visit Pompeii and Ravello, and park up at seaside campsites with views over the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Europe offers an impressive range of campsites, from Mediterranean beachfront parks with swimming pools to alpine sites nestled beside glacial lakes. Most are well set up for both campervans and motorhomes, with electric hook-ups, fresh-water points, waste disposal stations and modern shower blocks. You will find sites spread from Scandinavia's fjords to the Spanish coast, so wherever your European road trip takes you, a comfortable pitch is never far away.
Motorway systems vary across Europe. France, Spain, Italy and Portugal charge tolls on most autoroutes, payable by card or cash at barrier plazas, while Germany's Autobahn network is toll-free for vehicles under 3.5 tonnes. Vignettes (pre-paid stickers) are required in Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are typically 80–90 km/h on motorways, lower than the car limit. Rest areas with dedicated motorhome service points are common in France and Germany. Always check height and weight restrictions before entering tunnels or mountain passes.
It was a pleasure dealimg with Alain. The Motorhome was in good condition and Alain was very helpful at pick up and drop off ensuring we knew how everything worked.
We had a great time in the motorhome. Jean Pierre was very friendly and professional. We were shown how everything works before setting off. We would definitely recommend hiring this vehicle. Jean Pierre only speaks French but with the aid of a translator app and his son it worked out absolutely fine. Thanks again Jean-Pierre.
Frederic was excellent. Easy to contact and helpful at all times. The whole experience was a joy.
Fantastic, we were welcomed and everything was fantastic.
We hired this camper Asier for our family holiday through Spain and France, what a great van it is with everything you need. Asier is very friendly and helpful even though there was a language barrier. We would definitely use again if we needed to.
Mario was very helpful and supported us with this new experience. The vehicle was basically brand new and while there were some minor problems with cupboard doors, it was a very well equipped and comfortable van for 2 adults and two children of 10 and 13 years old. Highly recommended!
